Default 2001 durango speaker/radio questions

Im looking to replace the speakers and headunit on the vehicle but im not sure as to how to do this, my questions are these:
----( i have the infinity system btw)----

if i want to just replace all 4 door speakers i have to find 2ohm to be pushed accurately by stock amp?

if i want to swap out headunit and 4 door speakers i can do so by bypassing the stock amp? by using this method will i still need 2ohm speakers or not?

im leaning more towards swappinig out HU and speakers ,the reason i am replacing them is because one of the coils is bad and the foam on all of them is shot

and aside from the radio kit and harness, do i need anything else?

thanks in advance

4 ohm speakers will work, they'll just be quieter than 2 ohms. You can bypass the stock amp with a harness you can make/buy I believe too. In that case you'd be fine to use whatever the headunit you use recommends.

I didn't want to spend the money on a whole new system so I replaced all 4 speakers with Infinity Reference 6032cf which are 2ohm speakers and couldn't be happier. If you are going to keep the stock Infinity system you need to get 2ohm, I initially tried some 4ohm speakers and the sound was terrible. I think the Infinity system sounds to good with proper speakers to justify replacing it in a 13+ year old Durango but then I listened to a lot of loud metal when I was younger so my ears may not be as sensitive as they should.

Aw, nothing like a good Slayer tune to get riled up.

If plan to install aftermarket speakers and do not want to go shallow mount, you can purchase the mounting kit to mount your aftermarket speakers to the OEM spacer ring to bolt back onto the doors. Answers to this question are in the FAQ under this forum.
