Did My Mechanic Tamper with mileage? and tranny question
I just had a re-manufactured engine put in my '06 by an independent mechanic. Until I got the money my Durango sat idle for 2 months.
Prior to my engine seizing up I believe the tranny was fine other than sometimes would make some noise going into R or D. Now that I have it back, sometimes it doesn't go 2 to 3 unless I tap the gas hard and quickly. I figured something wasn't put back correctly but the mechanic says its probably needs Lucas treatment or a flush. A trusted friend/mechanic says probably coincidence its not working right now and for sure use some Lucas, but with 154k miles it might not take the flush so well.
Now my mileage. I checked with the dealership when it was first towed what my mileage was and they said 154,610. When I picked up the Durango somehow there is now 157k miles. 2 days later I asked if it was tampered with because I have 3k more. He quickly said "no sir!" He then asked if the instrument cluster flashed or acted strangely, it hasn't. He then hit the top of the dash a few times with no results and had no explanation. I asked so if I go to sell this and somebody sees its been tampered with how are they going to know if I rolled the miles back or not. He said whats displayed is coming straight from the computer and if a scanner was to be hooked up it would show the mileage that's being displayed on the dash. I told him the miles on the receipt was 154k and he kinda was dumbfounded and asked what receipt. I said the one you gave my wife. I also noticed there was something about a 3k mile warranty on the receipt which I guess is for his work as LKQ coveres the enging for 3yrs/unlimited mileage.
So did they tamper with the mileage or somehow swapping out engines miraculously added 3k miles??
Sorry just seen I was in wrong gen thread, I apologize
