Question AOK..Transmission Fluid Change/purge suggestions to keep it that way ?

Ok..02' 4.7 w/45rfe Got the factory filters (2) last year after reading about the spin-on pressure issue with the aftermarket (at the time at least)..and pan sealant..
Came looking for advice on what "fluid to use Eg: stock, synth.brand etc . as the technology in lubricants has changed since '02
Ran across the transmission purge thread..

So the questions are .. ATF4 or is there something better (synth) ? Any Brand suggested or any to stay away from ? The transmission "purging" article is interesting and is it still recommended or @ 103k on a '02 just drop and change filters and button it up ? Had it 10 years (50,000 miles)and haven't change it yet..don't know if the prior owner had it done ..

Transmission is running good other than it always felt like it needed 1 more gear

OK ATF4 ..guess I don't want to mess around...
IF I don't "purge" does it make sense to use Synthetic ? it would basically be around a 2 to 1 mix .. 8 qts NEW Synth. and 4 qts OLD Conventional ?
AND is it safe to combine ?

Thanks
jim

Chrysler very tightly controls the formulation for atf+4 so you shouldn't have any compatibility issues with fluid. All atf+4 is synthetic too.

Thats good to know..went to advance last night and the only ATF4 by the gallon was carquest? .. Lol had a 50% coupon and still didn't trust the brand..because Im not familiar with them..I'll go with a Brand Name anyhow...glad to know ATF4 is the ONLY way to go...Thanks for letting me know to stay away from the Super Fluids as I like to call them

Thanks
Jim

In theory the store brand stuff should be the same, but I wouldn't use it either. I always use the Valvoline atf+4.

And never put anything besides atf+4 in a Chrylser transmission (unless the spec says otherwise) because atf+4 is the best fluid out there already. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/fluids.html
