Default Overdrive Snap Ring in Transmission Pan

46RE Transmission, running fine, but had the fluid changed and found pieces of the overdrive snap ring in the pan. Seems to be common. My question is how long people have gone before they completely lost the transmission. I don't know when mine broke. Not sure of my path forward, may be time to move on from this truck. Kind of a bummer, only 95k miles on it.

If indeed it is the OD snap ring then your OD would not be working. Who changed the fluid? if it was a shop i would highly second guess there findings.

It is a shop I know and trust. There were 4 small (2 inch) pieces, consistent to pics I've seen of other posters with same issue, maybe an 1/8th of the whole thing. I suspect there is still enough holding it together for the OD to keep functioning for now. The OD does indeed work (2k or less rpm at 65).

Default Overdrive snap ring in transmission

I had the issue with my 99 Durango. 5.9 L 46 Re transmission. when I was changing the tranny fluid. This one was broke in two pieces. ( Overdrive still worked though). Hauled it a tranny shop, they ended up rebuilding the tranny because that . I was at the dodge dealership and talked to Bob, which was the head maintence. He said that it was a common issue with the transmission. Without seeing the tranny his self he did question's why the transmission shop rebuilt it.
Not much help but thought you like to know a similar issue

Thanks for the input GRT. I talked to a tranny shop who also concurred its a common problem. He also said that if not too much damage has been done, it could be as little as $8-1200 repair versus the 3 to 4k rebuild/replace.
