my 99 D sinks like a rock
hello everyone i have a 99 dodge durango with the 5.2L and a 44re trans about a week ago i went mudding with some buddys and ended up droping my truck off in a giant hole fillled with water if u look at the pic below u can see the water line down the side well any ways the tranie is full of water i drove it about 40 milles home and havnt even starterd her up if i drop the pan for a few days and let her dry out then put it back on top her off drive her for about a week and repeat do you think the tranie will be ok i also got some lucius traine repair to try and better my odds idont have money for a new tranie at the moment if i can make her last till mid September at less id be goldenand if any of u know anything about the 5.5 in tough country lift id like in put on that im really thinking about it thanks for ur time

i do like that_guy s suggestion, start there hope for the best, but i would think it wouldnt drive properly with water in the trans, it has different properties than trans fluid and would definitely cause noticable problems.
also the waterline im seeing (top of the headlights to top of rear wheel) makes me wonder how water got in the transmission? the dipstick is the only opening on the trans and that is mounted on top of the engine, above the intake, i would have thought youd get water in the cylinders and hydrolock it before you got water in the trans.
i still think you should change the following fluid (based on the water line) and hope you didnt kill anything.
1) transmission
2) front differential
3) rear differential
4) motor oil
