Default Best Lift for my 99 Durango 4x4

Aloha from Hawai'i!
I've finally had the time to ask for help on a lift kit for my Durango. I would ultimately like to put some height on it. I've taken it off-roading everywhere. I hate scraping rocks(yes I know how to drive). I need more clearance. What is a lift kit that will get me a substantial difference in height and one I can install at home. Also a cheap price would be good too.

Thanks you guys. Let's make this happen!

I think Tuff Country makes one. Not familiar with it or anything though.

I think I asked this a long time ago and I seem to remember the answer being that lift kits were for two wheel drive versions only because the four wheel drive Durango's have a different type of suspension that doesn't allow for lifting. Maybe the difference between torsion bar suspension and standard suspension.

Tuff country is about the only real lift kit out there and it's not cheap.. you could take it to a local 4x4 mod shop and they could fab some parts but again not cheap.

Cheap is a torsion bar lift with 2" shackle lift on back.
2" cab (body) bushing lift (basically remove the body from the frame and installing larger bushings)

Yep there is the tuff country 5.5" lift and I've seen those anywhere from $1500-2000. Best thing would be to do a t/s lift for 2" coupled with a 3" body lift. Both of those can be done easily at home for around ~$350. Plenty of threads on here, I remember awhile back user jmess did a write up on the body lift, performance accessories brand seems to be the favorite.

What happened with the suspension is that for 98-99 it was a dana 35 ifs front diff with a good ole' steering box set up like what you would find on the straight axel rams at the time, these were the only years that suspension lift kits were made for. Then in 2000 they went to a chrysler 8" ifs diff and upgraded to rack and pinion steering. Not to mention if you had the premium nv242hd instead of the nv231 transfer case the new front driveshaft angle had a tendency to blow that transfer case up and no one knows why so eventually companies gave up in the early 2000s. Rancho, procomp, and a few other big names used to make 3" kits. If you got lucky you might be able to find one of those discontinued lifts somewhere.
