01 durango range sensor and park interlock
hey guys some of you might remember me posting about my wifes durango back in 2014 well i'm at it again. at that point she had dropped the 2nd gear band anchor while putting the valve body back in i broke the range selector sensor isolater. so i super glued it back together and all was good. she only drove it for a couple weeks after that untill my dad gave us his van that got better mileage so she drove it the rest of the summer. when winter came we fired up the durango took it to town for gas and when we went to leave the station it wouldn't start. the wife noticed that it didn't light up in park or neutral.i crawled under it looking for loose wires and we figured out if i pushed on the range sensor it showed park and it started. we figured the super glue broke in the cold so we parked it untill now. i was able to find the new isolater and went to put it in today. after dropping the pan i noticed the old one is still intact. i will be changing it either way now but is the sensor it self adjustable? it was doing the same thing today as soon as i put a little pressure on it park lit up. or do i just need to replace it? also today it won't come out of park. the battery is shot so we just had my jump box hooked up but the shifter is locked could the brake interlock have gone bad just from sitting for a year? we are hoping to take it to florida next month to pick up a bed for my kids 66 d 200 that i'm restoring . so i'd like to get the durango going asap so we can drive it around a couple weeks before taking it for a 3000 mile trip. it has over 200k on the original engine and trans so this will likely be it's last long trip.

by the time i got the trans all back together i was to cold to tear the steering column apart to figure out the shifter interlock i had to jump start it since the battery is shot but it fired right up which surprised me since it's sat for a year. after letting it idle for about 5 minutes with all gauges reading good i tached it up to about 1500 rpm it just stalled out and won't start back up. it has 222k on it anyone have any ideas what could go bad from sitting? i do have fuel to the rail but haven't looked any further into it yet
ok went out today first thing i did was check for spark which i didn't have. since these coils fail so often i keep a spare in the truck so i tried a new coil and it fired right up. i've never had just all the sudden fail with the engine running like that but i guess i got lucky that it was the 1st part i tried. as far as the shifter lock aparently this truck doesn't have the interlock that you'd need to hit the breaks in order to shift. i was able to just pull the rubber boot on the shifter and lube the lock assembly. now as soon as i turn the key on it unlock the shifter. after letting it run for a while i noticed the fan clutch is locked and there was a little rattle from the front of the engine. if i wiggle the fan the water pump pulley moves a good 1/8 in so it looks like i'll be changing it again. this one is only 3-4 years old. any thing else i should be checking that could of gone bad from sitting. i'd rather fix it now then on the side of the road 5 states away.
