99 Durango long story
It's been a long saga. Here's the gist of it. 99 durango 5.9. Ran great with occasional misfire at highway speeds. Had the "no bus" error a couple of times, but not in last 4+ months. Replaced cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. Most of the misfire was gone. Heck could just be our bad roads.
Anyway, oil consumption suddenly shot up. Oil in intake.
Replace plenum plate gasket. Started fine. Revved up and it backfired out exhaust.
That was 2 months ago. Since then, MAP replaced, IAC motor replaced, o2 replaced, cat removed, crankshaft sensor replaced.
Still no improvement. Cold starts are hard (long crank) but will start and idle. While in open loop, it runs fair, but will not take much throttle before a backfire. When It goes closed loop, it will barely idle, and go anywhere. Fuel pressure has been checked a couple of times. Good both running and off. 49psi.
If I let it set more than 24 hrs it will not start, and I have to pull plugs and pump relay and crank to dry it out. Then it runs again until the PCM takes over.
Fuel trims climb at idle, but I can tell it smells rich. It has even backfired raw fuel out exhaust.
Can't afford dealership at $125 hr, but friend of mine that is local mechanic is out of ideas.

fuel trim climbs is usually a closed loop feedback from the pre-cat oxygen sensor, which is a common cause of it running right, so i need to ask which o2 sensor you replaced. It almost sounds like timing is off if you are backfiring, but thats electronically controlled, and the timing chain is not prone any issues on this truck. form the collection of issues im thinking you have a bad PCM (engine controller) especially with the intermittent "no bus" error code.
Well.........
It's fixed. I asked a friend that is a mechanic for UPS. He didn't have time but referred me to a "friend of a friend". I dropped it off next to 4 jaguars, a few mercedes, and audi's. He had a wicked looking dodge dart way in the back on the lift. I told him I wasn't sure I could afford him.
$150 later, and it runs great. Oh, and just so we know who the prize goes to, it was the coil. He said it was sparking but weak.
