Engine Hic-up
My daughter bought a 2002 Dodge Durango 4X4 in October, 2014 with 91,300 miles.
4.7 V8,automatic. Late February 2016 it developed a hic-up. present miles – 106,000.
Fuel rail pressure – 50 steady, Vacuum – 17 steady (at idle), new Champion spark pugs,.040 gap, Week #3 of 4 Week Lucas Oil Complete Fuel System Renewal Kit (10966).
After warm up, the engine idles smoothly at 1000 RPM. However, every once in a while there is a hic-up. The engine drops to about 500 RPM for a split second, then returns to normal. There is no rhythm to it. When the hic-up occurs while the car is in drive with the brake on, (engine under load) it stalls out. It seems to drive normally when it’s moving. Any ideas on the cause of this hic-up would be appreciated.

How old is the battery? Could be an issue with low power to the computer (the computers are extremely picky about the battery). You could try cleaning the battery connections with a wire brush first.
And where in the Burgh are you? I grew up between West Newton and Yukon (near Greensburg).

We live on Mount Washington. The dealer said the battery was new. We had several very cold days this past winter and had no problems starting the engine.

A new development has occurred. now the hic-up has become repetitious. The RPS's switch from 1000 to 500 to 1000 to 500 repeatedly. I tested the throttle position sensor found in the haynes repair manual. All readings checked out.
