Default No shift to 2nd after sitting for 2-3 days?

When I leave my '02 Durango park for a couple of days, it takes about a quarter of mile of driving for it to shift into second. The engine races but no shift. Trans works fine other than that. If I use it every day, it works fine. The dealer says this is normal, that the trans has to warm up, and it will allow the engine to race to do that. Sounds like B/S to me. Anyone know for sure????

Does sound like BS, the only time my tranny gets stuck in 1st gear is when the governor actuator switches went out on me. It did posed a check eng light. Luckily this was under warranty at the time.

Maybe check and change out your tranny fluid and filter to see if this fixes it?

I agree. Drop the pan and change out you filter and fluid. make sure you only use the right fluid.

Thanks for your interest and the suggestions, but I just had the tranny serviced at Dodge and it still does not shift first to second until it runs a while.
