Default Ticking...

I have ticking at initial cold start up. If I Elevate the RPM's up, let's say a thousand RPMs for a second or two.
The ticking will go away and not come back after that short rev.

I'm assuming it is the hydraulic lifters?

I also like the idea of going to solid lifters. What do you guys think of this?

You sure it's not a cracked manifold?

Intake or exhaust?
Definitely not exhaust and I'm pretty sure the intake manifold is just fine. It only ticks at initial startup.

People waste more money doing that. Don't spend any money on anything (groceries are ok) until you're sure.

Could be the exhaust manifold bolts...not just the exhaust manifold.

Does the tick bug you?

If it is not a constant tick, then not sure it is worth throwing money at it.....especially the "Solid Lifter" cheese. Your cash and your call.

Had a tick on mine...turned out to be bolts. Got them replaced...much nicer. Same happened on friends Dakota.

if you have the 4.7 they have a lifter tick on cold starts, they have hydraulic lash adjusters which drain when the car sits long enough, once they pump up they are fine, i have yet to come across a 4.7l engine which doesnt do this. if thats the case i would not worry about it
