Default I got a couple trouble codes I can't figure out. Help!

So I'm trying to figure out why my 01 Durango 4.7 4WD is running a little hot. I realize that at 234,000 miles she ain't no spring chicken, but I still like it and want to get another couple hundred thousand out of her.

Anyway, I had a check engine light so I ran the codes with my Autel scanner.

Found a couple codes that I can't figure out,

First in the BCM Module

0037 ROM CHECKSUM FAILURE

Second in the HVAC Module

P01 EVAP TEMP SENSOR\CIRCUIT SHORTED

So I am assuming that they may be related. If the EVAP TEMP sensor has a problem then maybe that would cause a checksum error.

But I can't find any information that mentions an EVAP TEMP sensor. Since it is in the HVAC module I am also assuming that it is the evaporator temperature that is being referenced. But don't see any temp sensor that relates to the evaporator in the HVAC.

Any help?

Checksum is when the box does it's internal startup procedure, reading in it's mini operating system, and decides it has issues. It's not smart enough yet to look about the truck for other problems. I'd guess that the CTM (what you called BCM) is dying. I had one go last month. Besides it's own issues, in my case it also said I had problems with the TCCM (4wd controller). All the errors went away after I swaped the CTM.

Thanks JeeperDon. You may be on the right track with the CTM. I have had issues with the dome lights for years with this car. I determined that it must be the CTM, but have simply lived with the miner issue with the dome lights. I would like to replace the CTM, but refuse to pay a dealer to program it. Did you have to pay for the CTM to be programed? It seems that I have read that some say you have to and others say not.

I got a used CTM via eBay, $70 or so. It worked when installed, but the old key fobs were not paired. The dealer charged me 1/2 hr labor to hang a DRB3 on it and pgm in the fobs.

I could live with that. I don't use the OEM fobs anyway.

I'll start looking for a CTM.

I searched and searched for the EVAP Temp switch. There don't seem to be one in my 2001. Later models list them. I wouldn't even worry about it but I could not get it to erase the code with my scanner. And I'm still trying to resolve my temp gauge showing the temp hotter than I want. I'm wondering if that has something to do with the EVAP Temp code causing the engine to run richer than it should. Or running the AC harder than it should also causing excess engine heat and wear.
