2000 SLT 5.9magnum has bad ECM. Interchange book says there's only one that'll work. Question being: why won't 2000 RT work? Also, 98 99 came with 5.9 why won't one of these work?

I read on another forum "The R/T from 00 till 10/01 had a unique R/T PCM (not to be confused with the Mopar PCM) and required premium fuel. After 10/01 through 03 the R/T has the same PCM as the SLT."

I know that 98-00 uses the CCD wiring system, and 01-03 uses the BUS system so thats why they wont interchange like that. As for a 98-99 PCM for a 5.9 i dont see why it wouldn't work in your 2000, someone please correct me if anything is wrong.

99-older you can swap around. 00+ you gotta have the VIN and SKIM code match the ABS brain and the CTM or it will start/quit.... start/quit... start /quit.
I am going thru that right now with my 01, my computer crapped out so I sourced another from the junkyard that also came from an '01, same part number and all.... but I had to send it and my original ones out to have the replacement programmed with the VIN and SKIM code from the original fried computer so itll run again. same year, same engine but as it arrived from teh boneyard, no dice.... I like the OBD1s for that reason. take a brain out of a van and put it in a pickup, it don't care. but now a days they just **** me off. I am having these headaches on an 01 which is "old" by most people's account but after having this much hassle with a now 16 yo (model years, anyhow) I certainly know I DON'T want anything newer! Newer just means MORE hassle and headache if a problem does arise, jsut because it's newer doesn't mean you can't have problems along the way!
