Hey there. So I own a Dodge Durango 2002 SLT Plus and for awhile now that it is winter, I have noticed that I get absolutely no heat going to the rear air vents.
I have done quite a bit of researching and have determined 2 main issues that are common with this type of problem:
1: The door located in the rear heat core (underneath the right passenger rear interior panel) is not operating due to a broken piece.
2: (Most likely my case) the heater lines are plugged and are not receiving coolant.
One of the ways people have figured whether or not number 2 is the case is by getting down under behind the right passenger rear wheel and finding the 2 heater lines and feeling them while the heater has been on and seeing if they are warm. I have done this and discovered after driving a bit, and running the rear heater full blast (albeit with no heat) that these hoses in my case are cold. I believe this means that I have an issue such as a clog.
Now, I am most definitely not car repair savvy for lack of a better term. I no almost nothing when it comes to fixing cars (except tires, I work in the tire industry.) So I dont know really how to fix this.
I don't exactly want to take it to a mechanic because I just did this past summer spending just under 2k fixing my AC that was not working due to a bad compressor. I took a picture of the heater lines that I THINK im supposed to be feeling.
yep, the rubber hoses are the heater core lines, the metal lines are the rear a/c lines.
these vehicle use an electric coolant pump located near the right fender/firewall. I have never had to deal with one so i am not sure if it routes to the rear heater. If it does, make sure the pump is working.
