Default Gear indicator off by one position, any ideas?

Hi all, Just going through my new to me 98 durango trying to fix all the issues it had when I bought it (it's a little bit of a fixxer upper).

Next on my list is the drive gear indicator on the dash. I put it into park and it shows park. I put it into reverse and the indicator is hidden between the P and the R. When in Neutral it shows R, when in D it shows N, so on and so forth. So I'm hoping that means that there's just something that's not adjusted correctly? I hate taking the dash apart but I don't know how that system works so Any ideas where I should start looking?

Thanks for any help.

There's a little white **** on the steering column under the dash. It should be accessible without taking anything apart.

Awesome! Thanks. i found it and cranked it all the way to the stop and it worked. I wonder why my cable is so far out. There's just barely enough adjustment to get it to read right BUT it reads right now so problem solved. Thanks That-Guy!
