Default Suspension Question

Hello all,

Trying to get an informed opinion from the masses here...I have a 2001 Durango SLT+ AWD/4WD with the 4.7 engine. My shocks are SHOT and need replacement...its to the point where driving on I-80 over the Sierra's I am getting wheel bounce from the "ruts" in the pavement from tire chains.

That being said I have been looking online at sites such as rockauto.com, partsgeek.com and the like. Originally I was looking at the Rancho RS5000XL shocks, however, Rancho in their infinite wisdom does not make a RS5000XL for the read of the Durango. I had toyed around with running the XL's in front and standard 5k's in the rear...more I thought of it, hated the idea of mixing shock types...XL's are larger diameter and gas filled...regular 5k's are not...Bilsteins are a tad pricy...and I have run KYB's before on my Ranger...not sure how the quality these days are with them...

I am basically trying to find a decent priced mid-range improvement over OEM...I drive dirt roads daily and need something that will last.

So let the suggestions fly.

Thanks in advance

Steve

i always put the Monroe reflex shocks on mine, i know they arent something you listed, but they are decent and they (at least the last time i bought a set) come with a lifetime warranty.

Had rancho 5000s on my durango, loved them. Had bilstein 4600s on my 98 1500 and loved them. Both ran a bit stiff but handled the tough stuff well.

Love my bilstein 4600s. Have 165,000 on a set of factory 4600s so I put 4600s on the front of my durango and have never been happier with it's ride. Yes they are a bit firm. But these durangos torsion bar front ends are bouncy, very bouncy. They need something a bit more firm in my opinion

Anyone have any experience with Tuff Country shocks? Was browsing the interwebs and found SX8000 Nitro Gas Shocks for my Durango for $78.95 a pair front and rear: http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index....8b390c901e63fc my budget is kinda leaning toward these shocks and wanted to ask the group if anyone had personal experience with them.

Thanks,

Steve

As an update I went with these front and rear:

Have had them on my Durango now for a couple of weeks and so far, I love them! Great price and they included the boot as well.
