Default Rear End Noise

Have a noise that comes from driver side of rear end. Initially thought it was the brakes but found out otherwise. Only occurs when truck is driven for a while (heats up). Sounds like a popping noise with grinding thrown in. Only at low speeds under 10 mph. Kinda gets worse with side to side movement of wheel and making left turns forward and backward. I (with help) pushed it in neutral (only with wheel to the left) and it felt like the wheel would hit a "spot" and jump/click. Definately coming from driver side (noise) but you can feel it transmitted through the shaft all the way to the other side. I had the wheel off to check the brakes and I don't remember if I or my friends checked for play in the bearings. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be the bearings or much worse. Its in the shop but there are vehicles ahead of mine for repairs and was wondering if anyone else has heard of similiar issues.

Was this issue ever resolved?

I just picked up a 99 with 90K miles on it and it's doing the exact same thing. I'm inclined to say it's not the bearings and most likely a differential issue. It almost seems like something is going on with the LSD. If it were the bearings there would be a constant noise of some type when the vehicle is moving..which is not the case. Anyone?

I have the EXACT same problem. I can drive it all day around town without a problem, but drive it on the interstate for 10 minutes the noise will occur the next time you accelerate from a complete stop. It definitely feels and sounds like something catching inside the drivers side hub, but upon inspection, nothing seems amiss. I've replaced the Diff fluid with the appropriate lubricant and additive, but it made no difference. No shavings in the old fluid either.

99 Model, 130K Miles. Ideas anyone?

i had to replace mine at 65,000 ,miles its the factory lsd if you put your d in reverse and back up slowly while turning the wheel just a little you will hear a popping ,every 25-30,000 miles you are to change the fluid in the factory diif ,but you can find the lsd on ebay cheap or do what i did 4:11 gears and an auburn locker man that feels good
