Default Alarm did NOT go off after break in

My son had the 2001 Durango RT overnight and the window was smashed and door unlocked form inside and totally cleaned out. The alarm did not go off. Anyone know why this would be the case?

What kind of alarm? I mean, is it factory or aftermarket?

Assuming the OEM VTSS (Vehicle Theft Security System) on an R/T, does the 'Security' dash light blink when locking the vehicle? It's supposed to blink fast for 17 seconds while arming, then slowly while armed. VTSS is part of the CTM located behind the driver foot-well kick panel. It's programmable by a dealer using their DRB3 tool via the OBD2 port. You can test it my just locking the vehicle with a window left rolled down. CTM's don't last forever and I had to replace mine recently. I know my alarm does sound when I do the 'open door through open window' test.

It is the OEM. It works fine when we did the 'open door through open window' test. We think he did not set it, and likely even left it unlocked. Stupid thief didn't even try the door first.

If the VTSS master switch in the CTM is turned on, as it is from the factory or toggled on by the dealer, locking the truck always activates VTSS. No alarm would have meant not locked.
