Default new owner help needed

i just purchased a 99 durango yesterday with the 5.9 eng and drove it home from about an hour from where i live,on the way home it started not shifting gears unless i would let off the gas, if not it would go up into the redline range![:@] and as soon as i got off the highway my check engine light came on and the tranny started acting weird (not shifting and slipping) so i got home and parked it! this morning i started it and gave it a little gas and it wasnt slipping anymore however i did not drive it so im pretty sure it still wont shift right since the check eng lite was still on! i just found this forum yesterday and started reading thru it. so im hopefull that the problem is something i read in your forums with respect to it being tps sensor(throttle position sensor) or the tranny sensor inside of the tranny pan! can someone please advise me if i should be looking into anything else? i work for a body shop/mechanic shop and i work on the autobody side however im bringing the truck to work with me on monday and leaving for my boss to fix it for melol so ill just have to pay for the parts we also have a scanner so ill plug it in and see what the computer says and reset it, but any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated since i dont know these trucks! its funny the only crysler/dodge ive ever owned was my old 1970 duster 340 and i miss it greatly[X(]

I had a similar issue but only when first startng. Check the computer sensor on your tranny. Sounds like its dirty or you need a new one. I replaced mine for approx. $30.

I had similar issue on my 2000 R/T. Tranny stuck on 1 or 2nd gear and won't upshift. Sometimes I have to nail the throttle to get it to change but does not always work. Check engine light came on at the time the tranny problems started. While still under warranty, I took it back to dealer and they replaced the governor actuator switches. no more engine light and everything is shifting smoothly.

thanks guys! i check it at work and there were 2 codes on it i have them written down, however i cleared the codes and it was shifting fine after that, the tranny place told me that it was more than likely a sensor, and that they could not find anything wrong with the tranny itself, but they could not tell what it could be unless i wait for the check engine light to come back on and bring it back to them without clearing the codes! il post them in a few when i get the sheet back and maybe you guys will be able to let me know! i do remember on one of the codes it said something about no shift at ram drop!

Governor piece sounds just like my problem. Governor actuator switches went bad. Could be causing your ramdrop lockup. Don't know how much to repair as my issue was still under warranty.
