Left rear turn signal intermittnet please help!!
On my 2002 D, my left rear turn signal stopped working. Thought the bulb went out. I replace it with a new bulb. Same thing. I noticed I could kinda turn the bulb socket some/ try to press it in harder or something then it would flash again and work. I noticed the socket was pretty worn looking and the tab had broken off quite a bit after changing bulbs over the years. I get a replacement from Auto zone, looks like the same thing pretty much. It's a Duralast part. Well, I put that in and it won't work. Tried reseating it a few times/ playing with it..no luck! So I grab the old beat up socket and put it back in and it works. Then it stops working..if I press on the back of the socket some it will work again. I put the taillight back on and screw it on. It stops working again..I tap the taillight cover with my hand and it works again. Why would the new part not work at all? Yet the original part, I get the intermittent problem..any suggestions? I'll be driving and it works, the next time I do a left turn, it does not work. Please help! Guess I'll be returning the new Duralast socket back to Autozone for a refund...ugh..
Update, well today I took that Duralast socket back to Autozone for a refund. I went to Advance Auto and got another one made by a different manufacturer. Got home and installed it and it works. I noticed this one was a lot harder to get seated into the tail light cover, perhaps making a much better connection?? All I know is it works...for now anyway. The real test will be this week as I drive back and fourth to work. There was one review on Autozone's website for that Duralast socket and it did not work for that guy as well. So if you need a rear turn-signal socket, stay away from Duralast.
