Rear AC blowing hot, front cold
Hey guys i recently got a 2003 durango and the rear AC does not work but the front works great. Ive already checked a few things and replaced the rear blend door. The blower motor works great and the switch controls the actuator the way it should. The freon levels are where they should be. Im leaning towards the rear expansion valve being bad but i dont feel cold AC lines going to it. Does anyone happen to know what my issue could be? Is there somewhere between the front expansion and rear expansion valve that a blockage could occur?
The expansion valve (TXV) could still be your problem. 1 of 2 things can happen with expansion valves.
1. Something clogs them up and doesn't let freon pass through. That's more than likely what you have if this is a TXV problem.
2. They get stuck fully open or are improperly adjusted from the manufacturer. This is more rare, but was the issue I had with my Durango. Symptoms are different though, as if this is the issue, your pressures will never be right and you won't ever get cold air front or rear because all of the freon is just flowing freely through the rear system.
That's just my 2 cents. You should have a small hot line going in and a larger cold line coming out before the TXV. I don't know there the rear TXV is on an 03 though. I have a different rear A/C system than you. After the TXV, both lines should be cold.
