I have a '99 Durango 2WD, ABS rear only. After 90K miles the front brakes began to grab, it got pretty bad and I figured it was calipers. As of now I've replaced calipers, pads, and hoses, and it still grabs (drags actually) though not as bad, and it is equal on both sides, no pulling. Only the front brakes are doing this the rears are fine. Anybody seen this before?

 

I'm posting this for a friend of ours, her brakes are pulsating or shuddering (grabbing) whatever you want to call it during normal braking, ie in town 30-40 mph, 75 degrees and dry pavement coming to a stop light or sign. During these normal conditions her front brakes are in ABS mode where they are just grabbing and releasing as you would expect it to in conditions that call or it - not just driving around town. She did note that's its intermittant but seems to happen later in the day when the car has been driven around a little - any help would be appreciated, she's a single Mom and we want to try and help her out.

you will need to get new pads and turn your rotors as well as check the rear adjusters like the write up says.

I wonder if your problem isn't related to the holders that hold your pads in place. After a while the medal feet that hold up the pads and allow them to slide on the holders will ware groves into these holders. You need to grind these places flat again or replace the entire knuckle. The pad feet can get caught in these groves and not allow them to extend outward. Usually this problem causes these issues and cracking of the pad surfaces and warping rotors because of the heat that is continually generated.

 

Thanks Hydrashocker, man wierd that adjusting the rear drums would fix a front shudder problem - but no worries I'll follow your directions. Also I just learned she took it to the dealer maybe 6-8 months ago fr the same issue, they charged her money, it went away, no is back again so I'm going to look at the repair bill to see what they did and post the info back here.
