Default Fan Clutch question?

ANYONE! First time user so please help! I recently took my truck to a dealership to have some things replaced. They mentioned that my fan clutch needs to be replaced. The dealership said the the fan clutch is loose and needs to be replaced. What exactly does the fan clutch do for the car and how can I tell if I really do need to replace it or is the dealership trying to milk me?

Check the fan clutch yourself. Spin the fan and see if it has much resistance. If not much or no resistance, youy fan clutch is bad.
HOW IT WORKS...The fan clutch locks up when the temp of the air flowing over it is high, and disengages accordingly as the rir temp drops. If the clutch will not fully engage, it could cause engine overheating.

Just get rid of the clutch fan. Depending on what year your D is you might also have an e-fan. I took of my clutch and wired my e fan to a toggle switch.

Warm up your truck all the way. Open your hood and turn your fan with the engine off and see if there is more drag than when it is cold. If so yours is probably good.

Bonicjar<------ Why did you put a toggle switch on your fan instead of a temp sensor. If you happen to forget to turn it on your heads and motor might be fried!!!!!![sm=badidea.gif]
