Durango 5.9 Clutch fan delete / Electric fan conversion
I've got an 01 Durango R/T 5.9L which I'm trying to do a clutch fan delete on. I've heard of it being done before, and I know the 5.9L Grand Cherokees have electric fans, so I'm wondering if I could buy one for a Jeep new and rig it to the R/T and what all it would take to make it work. Thanks for any help.
If you're having cooling issues first make sure all your current parts are functioning properly (clean rad, working clutch, etc).
If you're still set on doing it (I went electric because even with new parts I couldn't keep it cool with ac on when it's 110° and humid here) be aware of all your options. You can go with a ram v10 clutch and fan for more mechanical cooling. You can also replace your auxilary fan with a higher powered one.
I am running an electric fan from a taurus 3.8 on my durango and it's been keeping it cool for years. The only problem with it is that it uses a lot of power and needs thick wiring and good fuse holders. You'll also need a controller.
As for the auxilary fan, I put a cheap "3000cfm" electric fan from amazon on my 928 in place of it's auxilary fan, and it moves way more air than the stock one, and keeps the car happy sitting in traffic with the ac on when it's damn near 100°. I honestly wonder if couple of those would move just as much air while drawing less power than the taurus fan.
