Default Drivetrain swap-ability

What I have is a 2nd generation durango 4x4 with a 4.7 engine that was recently wrecked. Vehicle is totalled but engine and trans are good. Can they be swapped into a 1st generation durango 4x4? I am a mechanic and not the owner of this vehicle. The owner wants me to pull the 2nd generation 4.7 with the Trans, and install them into the 1st generation durango. Anyone done it or closer to the point, anyone know a reason why it CANT be done?

If it's a pre dual plug non ho 4.7 it should work. You probably have to be mindful of tone wheel counts for crank (and maybe cam) sensors and swap those if they differ to what the 1st gen truck already had.

The trans should be the same. Maybe some sensors would need swapped over.

This only applies if the 1st gen truck was a 4.7. if it was a 5.2 or 5.9 this all goes out the window. Electronics won't be compatible.

Kick that 4.7 into the ditch and look for a 5.2/5.9.

LOL... you do realize that probably half the forum or more reliably runs the 4.7?

You know you want one...https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...g-a-4-7-a.html

Just go ahead and given in to the temptation. You'll have a lot less trouble.... https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...ml#post3504221
