You might be able to pop the inside of the door open into the cab, and open it from there. Sounds like you broke the internal latch.

whats wierd is if i hit the unlock on the factory remote, and lift the door handle at the perfect time, it would open, i cant get it to do that anymore though. as far as popping the skin off with the door closed, doesnt the top part of that skin have to slide upward to get it off? what did you think of the slim jim idea?

I had a similar problem on my Quad Cab Dakota. It turns out that the electrical part of the door lock was getting jammed. Once I got the door open (I think I was able to get the interior door panel off with the door closed...pain in the butt) I disconnected the plug on the door lock actuator and messed with the linkages until it unlocked. I have not yet got a new lock for the door (its cheaper to lock and unlock it manually instead of shelling out the $85 for the new lock actuator.) Hope this helps.

I have a 99 durango. About a year ago, intermittently, when I would use the remote to lock the vehicle, I would note that the horn would not sound but the vehicle would lock. The next time I would start the vehicle, the CHECK ENGINE light would be on while running. No error code. After so many starts the CHECK ENGINE light would go out. Have not been able to establish a relationship between the CHECK ENGINE light and the door locks. About 8 weeks ago, the driver side back door latch failed in the totally locked postition. Stayed that way for about a week. I notice that it was unlocked at one point and replaced it with a new door latch. The new latch is now in the failed locked position. The parts people at the local dodge dealer seem to think the latch has failed. To get the skin off, there is 2 screws at the bottom of the door that need to come out (besides the other screws.) I haven't figured out how to stand on my head and get a screw driver in there to remove them with the door closed. The skin should have enough room to remove after the screws have been removed. My real need is, what relationship does the door remote, horn and latches have with the CHECK ENGINE light?
