camshaft reference signal lost at pcm.. et al
Last week or two, my 2000 Rango w/ 5.9 gas, after it got fully up to temp, would either die, or after a hot soak, not restart. Zero spark. Let it cool off 1/2 hour, and restart was perfect.
I did capture 2 codes, No camshaft position signal, and/or no cam postion reference signal at the pcm.
So, after reading there really isn't a cam 'sensor' on these; it's the distributor pick up. So, I figured to replace it. Did the cap, rotor, dist. pick up and the coil. Coil had several cracks in the plastic.. 250k miles I thought it's time. I bought this Rango used last Fall.. The parts that came off appeared to be OEM parts. May have been the original parts!
Anyway, Is the plug for the dist. pick up the one that can cause problems? All I did was plug it in a couple times to 'clean' the connections. Should I go back and spray some contact cleaner and work it again?
It ran great tooling around off road.. got fully up to temp, then died. No codes this time, and restarted a lot quicker 'time wise'.. more like 10 minutes, rather than 1/2 hour or more. Still no codes.
Even After letting it sit and hot soak later, it fired right up.
I cannot say if It had no spark this last time, or if I'm dealing with a fuel pump issue as well.
Sidebar; while I had the scanner on it, I see I'm only getting 75% throttle position when it's mashed to the floor.. Is this normal? I thought wot means wot! says it about 12-13% position @ idle.
