Default 99 Durango tranny valve replacement

Saw a few post about tranny's but never saw enough to answer my questions.

Mine is slipping between 2nd and 3rd. Once I get up to about 65 in 3rd I can get back on the throttle like I want to. It's not burning fluid, lmao.....has been slipping gradually more and more since this time last year. Still not burning fluid. Tranny shop said valves posibly.

Are they hard to replace? I'm an old Chevy car guy, could replace an engine and tranny, did a partial rebuild of an engine, had this 318 down to the block troubleshooting the throttlebody gasket....to give you a bit of my know how. Valve's pop out and back in? Adjustments afterwords? Farther from a tranny guy than we are from the moon....never been to either.

I saw mention of a check valve at the radiator on the tranny line. Test like any normal check valve?

Thanks In Advance
Byrd

Default RE: 99 Durango tranny valve replacement

We had the same problem of shifting between 2nd and 3rd when we had the throttle down.. We could let off and wait then it would finally shift. I took the tranny out by myself (HORRIBLE JOB) and found that the tranny is a regular 3spd with the overdrive unit just bolted on. Took over drive unit apart and found a broken pressue clip in the direct drive clutch pack. Put a new clip in and went ahead and rebuilt the rest of the tranny with aftermarket clutches and bands and it shifts way way better than it did when we bought it new.. Not an easy job!
