Default Uncooperative headlights

A friend of mine has a 98 Durango with the following problem: his headlights will not come on. By that I mean if you turn the switch to power the side markers all is goo (markers come on, instrument cluster lights up), but when you put it to headlight mode, the headlights do not come on and the instrument cluster becomes dark. We already tried to replace the (expensive!) headlight switch. Well, it worked for less than a minute then it went off. What should we try next? BTW, all we have is a Haynes and its wiring diagram is not particularly helpful.

This seems to be a common problem, you're the 3rd person on the forums that has this problem. The others have not gotten back to me with their fix. I recommended taking a close look at the 24 pin connector and wiring that plugs on to the multi-function switch.

replace your headlight switch. Mine somehow got some water in it and then overheated and burned up the switch. Might want to search a junkyard for a used one as they are about 100 bucks at the dealer.
