The federal government is investigating reports of fires involving the Dodge Durango.
Documents say the flames on some models start under the driver's seat of the sport utility vehicle. The inquiry involves nearly 16,000 2001-to-2003 Durangos.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received complaints of five vehicle fires. The agency says three of them happened when the vehicle was parked. No one was hurt.
A DaimlerChrysler spokesman says the inquiry is in the initial stages and the company is working with NHTSA on the case.
Durangos are built at the DaimlerChryler plant in Newark, Delaware.
