Default Replacing Drive Axle/CV joints

I am hoping that someone here might be able to offer up some advice to me. I have a 1999 Durango 4wD, and I am trying to change the front driver side drive axle(the whole assembly, with the CV joints). Problem is, when I unbolt the flange, I don't have clearance enough to drop the axle. The middle section of the axle is resting on the lower A-arm, and I can almost flex the inner joint enough to get it out, but not quite. And even if I could, it would be a beast to get the new assembly back in there. It seems that there is something that I don't know. Has anyone had any experience with this? Your help will be much appreciated!

Thanks,

NP

If you take off the tie rod end it will swing out farther. Or simply unbolt the upper ball joint. I did it without removing the ball joints though, but if you haven't replaced the ball joints now is the best time.
