HI I have a 2001 durango 2wd with the 5.9. Today my wife was driving it and she started to hear a rumble noise after it shifted from first to second. Soon after she was in a parking lot and the tranny wouldn't go in reverse. NOW it won't go in reverse AT ALL. It never has gone in park very well either. You always had to put it in reverse and then switch to park to get it in park but this is a whole new problem.

Can anyone please help

I have a Blue 2001 Durango 2wd with the 5.9 and i just purchased a Black 2005 srt-4 that i traded with a 98 neon r/t

Ok so if i was to just change my transmission fluid and filter it should fix the problem. Before i do that how do i know that i dont have a linkage problem instead?

 

Check the fluid level itself and make sure it is at the proper level. If it is and you want to try and do the work yourself, then I would agree and look at changing the filter and fluid. It is possible that your reverse band has gone out. The only way to really verify it is to take it to a tranny shop and get it checked out. With the exception of R/R the tranny and fluid/filter changes, you should leave the service stuff to a qualified tranny tech. If nothing else, most shops should give a free estimate that could tell you what's wrong.

 

The first thing that i did was check the fluid level, which was normal. I could do the fluid change myself but next week when I get my tax refund the durango is going to a shop. I was just looking to get some ideas in the meantime. Tonight I decided to go start up my durango and give the reverse a try. Now it will engage but bairley. It slips like crazy but the forward gears work just fine. On the brighter side now i get to drive my new SRT-4 two hours a day to take my wife to work, kid to school and myself to work.

 

Just a FYI, but have you checked your fluid lately or changed the fluid and filter?
