The Brake a light and ABS light are on, on my dash board. Any ideas what is up i dont seem to have a problem please let me know. I can turn my vechicle off and start it back uop and it is off than its fine for a while than when i either tap the brakes or apply the brakes the lights come on again


Vehicle info 1999 Durango 4x4 5.9L stock no mods

 

Make sure your fluid level is good.
If it is low, you can add some, but that is telling you the pads and/or the shoes are wearing down and need replaced.
When you turn the key off and on, it is clearing the codes which is why the light is going on and off.
There should be an ABS solenoid pack(2 round metal things) by the master cylinder.
Try giving them a smack with the plastic end of a screwdriver.
My 97 gave me an ABS/brake light. The solenoid got stuck evidently.
Smacked the solenoids a couple times and cleared the codes by disconnecting the positive side of the battery for a minute or so and it never came back on.
You may get lucky.
If it continues, get it checked out.

 

I have the sme model as yours. Try the "output shaft speed sensor" located on the rear of the transmission.

Jack it up so the sensor is UPHILL and you wont loose much fluid.

Go to parts store and get the codes read, it should indicate the problem

The only one that can read an ABS code is the dealer computer's. Sorry but you need to take it there.

 

Its most likely a sensor. I've had this light come on and it turned out to be the left front ABS sensor, I was only able to purchase it from the dealer. Something about a law that Checker couldn't sell ABS sensors, WTF. However the light has now come back on in my 98 D and I haven't been able to find the bad sensor this time. Best bet is to take it to a dealer have them tell you whats wrong then go fix it yourself with the help of Chilton's or Haynes'
