First- my first post..Hello all. Every time I stop I get a knock, or clunk noise. also when I take off. occasionally over bumps. but mostly taking off-stopping. everything seems tight except there is 1/8 to maybe at most 1/4 inch play on lower ball joints. up and down movement. I replaced the upper ones last week due to about the same play. would the lower ball joints cause a 'clunk' noise upon braking-starting off? I really feel it in the steering wheel. but not getting any play in pitman arm or main arm off steering box? any known 'clunking' noises inside steering box when bad? I might add..there is no or very little wandering. I don't know if there is supose to be play up/down in lower joints? new upper ones don't. please respond ASAP. THANKS SO MUCH- Gene

 

Replace the lower joints.
