Default A/C problems??

I just purchased a 2003 Durango and the only problem I'm having is the A/C is cold going to the rear vents, but up front its warm, anyone else have this problem? What could be causing this and how to fix?[>:]

Join the club. I have the same problem. Ice cold in the rear, nothing up front. I searched and came up with zilch. If you happen to take it somewhere to get looked at, let us all know what the problem is.

Here's my post https://dodgeforum.com/m_444102/tm.htm

After reading this same complaint now for a while, by the description, I would have the expansion valve(orfice) checked. On GM A/C there is a screen as part of the orfice, and can clogg up. The front and rear A/C have there own orfice.
You have to discharge the A/C system to remove the expansion valve(orfice). Hope this helps...

OK, I was looking at my 03 Durango. ( I do not have rear A/C though.) The expansion valve is at the in engine area, firewall, on the passenger side, where the Low, and High A/C lines (big & small pipes) go into a block. That block has the expansion valve in it. It looks like its a thremal expansion valve( expansion controlled by R134 temp in system) If it is not working correct, the system can be charged completely , yet not work.
I would look into seeing if the Dealer has a Recall, or any Bulletins about this issue. I have not had any problems yet, so I have not looked into the A/C system much on my 03 Durango.

Good luck, and hope this helps.

I have spoken to three different service managers (DODGE) and all have said I have a door that is not opening all the way in dash. Was told by one that it may need recalibration ??? I have explained that it seems like if I had another quarter of an inch of adjustment on dash it would be as cold as the rear.

You originally stated that the front air is warm. Now your saying that another 1/4" of dash adjustment would get you the same ice cold air up front. WTF?? My rear air is ICE COLD but the front is WARM. I'd need about 4" to get the same temp up front.

Here's what I did: Started the old girl up and turned on the AC. I waited for the rear and overhead vents to blow ice cold air. I then got under the dash on the passenger side. I removed the white plastic inspection cover that has an electrical connection (this piece took me awhile to get out). I reached inside the hole and touched the "air exchanger". Warm to the touch. I unplugged the before mentioned electrical connection. Compressor kicked off. Plug it back in, compressor kicked on. This leads me to believe the problem is with R134 NOT getting to this "air exchanger". Therefore,
what Digitoxin describes should be the problem for me.

Try what I described once to see if you have the same issue. If the "air exchanger" is cold, then it might be the blend door in your case.

Good luck. I'd like to find a NICE diagram of the expansion valve.
