Well, just learned about spare tire theft....Went on vacation and noticed I didn't have a spare under my 02 D. Looked under there and it was just a severed cable.

Didn't know what to think but wanted to get new and used prices on the mechanism and when I called the dealership, they said they had 20 stolen from there lot one night.

Long story short is that it sucks. Anyone have a spare tire and wheel or a regular 16" wheel + tire? All the bone yards around here were out of the wheel/tire as well as the mechanism....what a racket. Found the mechanism in CA, shipped to IL for less than $50 total, seemed decent.

 

That just plain sucks. What a world we live in.

 

Anybody found any sort of locking mechanism you can put on your tire? Lately there has been a rash of thefts in my neighborhood as well. Kids stealing spoilers off the rice rockets and stuff. I can just see me finding my tire missing one day with a flat 30 miles out some dirt trail. [:'(]

 

Hook up 240Volt to the new cable and let the bastards fry!!!
