milky oil in oil filler neck
Hey guys I was wondering if any of you guys have seen or heard of this. Inside my oil filler neck the oil looks like boiled frosting. Does that mean there is water in the oil or even worse a head gasket. It is a 01 4.7L with 59 km on it. Any info would be great.

Thanks for the info guys I wiped about 95% of the stuff out of the neck about 2 weeks ago and then took it to the dealer, I know that was assbackwards but thats what I do. They played dumb and said there were no problems nothing was there. Atleast the oil problem was noted in there computer. It doesn't look like the foam is coming back either so mabye we're ok for now.
I have the same problem, just noticed it yesterday, and about the same milage 40k. ITs on an 2001 Durango 4.7liter, did the dealerships ever wonder what the cause is?

Owned the thing less than a year, I have changed the oil a few times and this is the first I have seen this. Use Mobile 1 and change about ever 4-5k

Do these problems lead to problems like this?

my wife has a 2003 4.7 durango and a couple yrs ago while doing an oil change found milky sludge built up in the oil filler neck but nothing in the oil pan and no other fluids present in the drained oil so i figured something was going on w/ the heads and /or gasket. truck still ran perfectly not skipping a beat so i let it go w/ growing concern. figured i'd keep an eye on the oil. sludge slowly built up again but still NO performance issue. recently the electric fan stopped working and the only reason i noticed ( wifes truck) is she told me antifreeze was dripping from the front. i checked and found the leak coming from the overflow reservoir. i then went on line to get info and dicovered tons of people who have had small to MAJOR issues w/ cooling in these trucks, to the extent where the mechanics were scatchin their heads. when THEY do that where do you go? anyways, while figuring out the fan and leaking issue i decided to do another oil change and when i was refilling i noticed oil at the base of the oil filler neck ( outside ) and i didn't think i had spilled any so i got a flashlight to get a closer look and found a crack at least an inch long ( horizontal ) near the base of the filler tube and it is made pf plastic. so now i'm thinking the sludge is from rain, snow,etc... seeping into that crack and causing coagulation.......... Note...the scary thing about even honest mechanics is that they too are human..
hope this wasn't too long and hope it helps. if anyone knows where to get a new oil filler neck please post a link...thanks!

the milky issue w/ the filler neck is normal for the "remote style" oil filler, chrysler has a tsb that adress' it. the crack may add to the excess moisture, but thats an easy diy fix call your local dealer they can get them. i'm hunting for the bulliten regarding the moisture in the filler tube. i'll post it when i find it.

this refers to the 00 model, since then chrysler has updated the filler w/ the mentioned baffle and cap. the new cap has a cover w/ a hole to catch some of the moisture. your durango has this design. i wouldn't worry unless you see the milky oil on the dip stick.
