Default Could it be a major problem?

Im a soccer. softball, swimming ect. mom new here
and I have a 2001 4.7 with 93,000. When I step on the
pedal hard like when getting on the freeway it hesitates
almost enough to give me whip lash. And it jumps and
stalls every now and then when I stop at a light. Also
will it cause a problem if the ABS module is not connected?

Thanks

for some reason all Durango's have this problem, if you run a search through the durango forum u will find many of threads like this, mine also did the same thing, i replace my fuel pump, my MAP sensor on the back of my throttle body, my throttle body it self along with had my injectors cleaned, in the end it still does it every now an then whenever my tank get's below 1/4.. theres no telling what it is really, you can try an replace many of those things till it stops, or you can also try an using higher octane fuel, i realise it's alot more costly than reg unleaded, theres a simple fix for that, goto the autoparts store or even walmart, they have a bottle of octane booster that is supposed to only be used in offroad trucks, because it boost's your octane higher than street legal applications, BUT i use it in mine after every fill up, you simply put it in a 1/4 tank of gas then fill your tank, it's usually around $7 a bottle but it will treat an entire tank of gas..

Hope this helps!

Thanks alot for your help, I will try the octane booster first and see if that helps, And your right about it
happening with low on fuel..... I never put the two together...

Get a tune up lately?
Not sure on the 4.7,haven't worked on any.
Plugs wires cap and rotor on the 318/360's.
Good place to start without breaking the bank.

Welcome tlduncan,

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is, but I would start with getting a new fuel filter, and maybe spark plugs if you havent had that done. The Spark plugs are 100,000 mile plugs, and you have 93,000 miles on them if they have never been replaced. You have electronic ignition, so you do not need distributer cap or rotor, or spark plug wires if you get a tune up. Youe 4.7 has Coil on Plug , so NO spark plug wires.
As for your ABS module. If it is unplugged, you will only have standerd braking, and NO anti-lock braking. The durango will go into a skid in a panic stop. Hope this helps.

Your 4.7L has no wires or cap only plugs. Replace your plugs with OEM Champion plugs only. The problem is that when you get to under a 1/2 tank the fuel pump is out of the fuel so it can't cool down properly. It get's hot and can cause it to lock up.

The key is to keep it above a 1/2 tank. Do not let the tank get down to under a 1/4 tank because it is very hard to keep the pump cool out of the fuel.
