Hello Don, thanks for the reply, that's on 4 Low, you i gave up really regarding the heat, i couldn't be further with it till this point, so i asked the dealer to verfiy what's wrong, my only fear the gasket and the hairline on the engine. if im ok with these two then, I'll be looking for dual viper fans and a bigger rad with T stat in..

does it sound ok?
thanks.

WW:

I understand that you are concerned about a cracked head or blown head gasket. It is a good idea to rule those possibilities out.

Then you can focus on less expensive remedies.

Don
i'm back from the dealer and i took the car after a hard time with them, they said my coolant system is ok, but they think that the CYL Head or gasket is not good so they asked for my approval to pull down the CYL and check it out, i really don't trust them and i think they r just guessing especially when they told me we are charging you for the checking and reparing whether or not it's the problem.

so I compalined them to Crys.company in USA and i took my car and i might drive it to Bahrain to check in their dealer as he has a great reput. rather than those jerks.

meanwhile, im thinking of getting a new Rad. but not the standard one which is 2 slides but 4 slides, bigger one and check it out by then...will get back to you..

Regards,

Dear Don,
Possibly a partially collapsed hose or corrosion/scale that is effectively blocking a large portion internally.

could you explain this further....

by the way, my e-fan was out of order and i changed it and today i overheat about over the mid dash a little bit..

so what im thinking of is to get by ur advice sir, i will return the T-STAT and buy a new rad. with new hoses and see if things will work fine...

what do you think ? or do u recommend i try one by one with the T-stat in all options..

from ur answers i'm sureur so smart and u know the car very well....

thanks
Jo

Wordworth,

I understand you're in Saudi...I assume that you've been to United Motors main dealership...??

They're not bad and have taken care of my D...I have a 1999 with an electric cooling fan and no clutch fan...so my issues are different...

If your probelms are with a clutch fan then it maybe the clutch itself is at fault...however I can tell you that at speed on the highway the D does not require a fan to cool it...it will run quite happily with the air being forced through the radiator by the speed of the vehicle alone.

I know this because I drove from the border at Bahrain all the way to Riyadh with no fan due to an electical problem...

If the vehicle is fine round town - strange since most overheating occurs whilst the D is near stationary in slow moving traffic on a hot day - then you're radiator is probably ok and probably so is the clutch fan. Look for other issues...are you losing water or oil...what's the compression like...??

WW:

When I speak of a collapsed hose or scale, this means that possibly one of the big hoses going to and from the radiator is for some reason closing up upon itself and restricting coolant flow.

The scale issue refers to a cooling system that has not been flushed regularly, and had accumulated crap/crud to the point where several of the small tubes inside are closed off. This of course would cause overheating like you are having.

Re the t stat. If you have already installed it, I would leave it. You can rule it out as an issue then.

Thanks Chris and Don

you are helping me alot and i know im bothering you but what to do I love this Durango.

Chris, yes the United Motors, i didn't like them because they were guessing when i gave them the car, they started with saying we need to open the engine face to check the gasket, regarding your comments on the clutch fan, yeah it should not overheat while on the highway and this is another reason that tells me it's the radiator, it doesn't overheat while slow running or in jam, it only overheats SOMETIMES after i replaced the damaged e-fan, not always..that's why im patient to discover the problem.

I'm not loosing water but when it overheats it looses water about 0.5 Letter. and regarding the oil , i left it for 7000 KM and it was loosing about 1 Letter.

Don,
I'm sure the engine compression is Ok, i bought this D and I love it too much but seems the first owner was not doing any maint. to the coolant system. and i got what u mean by the hoses and scale, they are all fine but the cap is 16 PSI and i checked in the orignal part mopar and it should be 21 PSI , does it make a difference, some ppl here told me about theA/c pressure condenser, can you guys explain or have a photo to this item..maybe it's the problem.

I'm feeling that either a Rad or the water Pump not workign as it should be, but i see the water circulating from the engine to the rad. , maybe the water must be 50/50.

I'm lost, i used to have Honda/Accord 2003 and i spent with her 4 years and have no such issues....i missed my Honda but I love this STRONG DURANGO.

thanks Guys...

Wordsworth,

if you're using 1 litre of oil over 7000km...then either there's an oil leak or the engine is burning oil...
you need to pull the spark plugs and check them...they will tell the story...and at the same time check the compression
if any of them are oil fouled then you have either a blown gasket or (as I did) the head has cracked across the ports - a common Durango problem...and you need a new cylinder head
if the vehicle is over heating at speed then it may well be that United Motors are right...
fact of the matter is that Durango's are immense fun to drive but are temperamental and maintenance heavy...especially if the previous owner did not look after it. A Honda Accord it isn't...

Hello Chris, this might hellp you to dignose the problem, i have no problem in highway in nights but days when it's too hot, and i noticed no leak under the engine at all, but seems because it overheated couple of times that made it burning oil, i just changed the sparks two days ago and they were about to die.

I will do one more thing, i never checked the Rad if it's blocked or not,,,so i'll clean it up and flush the system and get back to you.. hopefully this works.

thanks.

Hello all,
Hope you are doing great, I would like to tell you that my overheating is resolved permanently by one Pakistani gentleman, who advised me to change the Radiator, I bought a new one from Dodge costs around $ 285 changed it and he did that replacement and installed the T-stat 195 F, and now it’s 1/3 of the gauge whether in 2 wheel drive or 4WD.

His repair cost was about 40 USD.

Now I can congratulate myself cuz I knew that United Motors are all fake, cuz they didn’t check the coolant system well, the started with the Engine, they are NUTS and gangs and I’m gonna complain them to the Middle East headquarter.

Thank you Chris and thank you all for your help and nice comments…

You were all a great help .

Thanks again and you are 100% better than any dodge dealership ever.

Jo.
