Losing power and starge noise
Hey guy's I am new to this forum, My problem is with my wifes durango, it seems to run sluggishly at times with a strage tick comming from what seems to be the drivers side of the engine. I have replaced all the ignition components, swaped injectors to the other side and still no change. Anyone else had this problem?? Also where can I get a program to play with the PCm settings, I have Tunercat for my camaro that lets me do it with my laptop, are there any programs for the Dodges like that??
Thanks

First run 91 octane or better for the R/T.
Second the 5.9L has always had valve noise. One thing to check on the power issue is your cat back pressure, and also change your trans fluid and filter.

I have always ran premium, and since we moved has been 93 octane, I just service the tranny about 3 months ago and all is well there. Also the cats are good, the problem seems to come and go, do these engines have knock sensors? I am thinking I have a lifter that is ticking a little and maybe the Knock sensor is picking it up and retarding the timing.
i have the same problem in my dakota it ticks at certian rpms at various times usally after ran for awhile but iv heard of fuel incectors makeing similar ticking noises but i dotn tihnck that would cause the sluggish ness. I got the 3.9liter by the way the 5.9s littel brother
Maybe going out on a limb, but based on another user's post, you may want your injectors soaked and cleaned? have your fuel pump check for consistent fuel pressure. You can check the spark plugs to see which injector may be fouled.
Maybe also clean your throttlebody as well. I spray some B12 cleaning solution to get rid of some of that gunk build up and it helped alot.
My 5.9 ticks but it is the injectors ticking so this type of ticking is normal.
I had all of my injectors cleaned a while back and my engine runs alot smoother now.
Another thing that can cause your Durango to lose power. Watch the temperature gauge. If the needle hits 210, the computer will cripple the engine to prevent you from overheating the engine further. This is a sign to alert you that something is wrong with the cooling system. When my fan clutch gave out, I was hovering between 215-225 and man, my D ran like crap, and my mileage dropped to the single digits. If it was not for the backup electric fan, my D would surely have gotten much hotter. Now the clutch as been replaced and my D is running at 195-205 mark where it supposed to be.
