MIL Mystery
Scenario 2001 well maintained Durango with small V-8. Two weeks ago battery failed on me, and replaced it without incident. Last week took it into one of those quickie lube places for an oil change and state inspection...no apparent problem. Yesterday the MIL displayed on dashboard. Vehicle appears to be running fine, good oil pressure, good temps, good charge. Went through all the visible and accessible hoses and electrical connections, all look tight. Also changed out the air filter the other day, but that looks tight, too. Any sage advice about the obvious I'm not seeing or doing....or do I need to put it on the "computer" to find the problem? 57,000 mi.
Scan the vehicle and find out what is setting the code. That's always the FIRST thing you should do when that little light comes on
I've seen people replace hundreds (and thousands) of dollars in parts...and do cartwheels (not litterally) trying to figure out what was wrong, when all they had to do was check the codes.
If you don't have access to a reader, a place like Autozone will do it for free.

I have an 01. I replaced the battery and two days later it was a no start. Speedo and tach off scale high. Had it dragged in to the dealer after 4 days they had replaced the B.C.M. and the F.C.M. one cooked the other they checked for codes and found none. Thank god for the extended warr. to cover about a grand in parts and 9 hours labor.
