03 Durango 5.9L Engine Miss
Hey, i just bought an 03 Durango 5.9L last week, and past couple days it feels like its got a miss in it, but its random, sitting idle at a stop light, you feel the engine purring smoothly then its like it miss fires, and sometimes when i am driving it does the same thing, will be going along smoothly and the it hiccups or miss fires, but it seems to only do it when in gear, I will keep checking to see, but if I put it in neutral it doesnt do it.
Anyone seen anyting like this?
Anyone seen anyting like this?
its got 64,000 miles, 2x4, on the way it really started acting up, if I get on the gas its somewhat okay, but in traffic when I am coasting and barely pushing the gas it stutters real bad, I tried putting some octane boost and filling up with premium gas and I thought it got better but after driving it again it only got a little better, the engine light came on and the code is P0306, I think that is the cylinder #5 misfire, can anyone verify that?
Thanks
Thanks
I'm buying a 1993 Dodge W250 5.9 Magnum right now.
The truck seems to have the EXACT problem that yours does. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, dist. cap, and coil. Still having the same problem.
I noticed that the relatively new spark plug on cyl 5 had obvious signs of lean running (brown burned look on the ceramic) while the others looked fine.
Probable cyl 5 injector problem. I am going to try and clean it tomorrow and see if that helps.
Any tips on doing this? I'm trying to save $120!! Hopefully the OP and I can resolve our issues.
Thanks

on the 2nd gen rams we've seen crap accumulate in the fuel rail and clog up the injector screens on the top of the fuel injectors. I alwaysed used high end gas so I never really had a problem with it. the additives in them kept things from forming inside the rail.
yank the rail off and flush it real good with TB/Carb cleaner.

I am driving a '99 Durango 5.9L 116k miles 4x4. I am having the same issues as the Original Poster. Idles ok, a little rough but hardly noticeable unless looking for it. Same goes for accelerating. When I am slowing or barely pressing the gas pedal to maintain a constant speed the engine misfires badly. I recently got a code PO302 (Cylinder 2 misfire).
The spark plug looks good. The cap, rotor, wires, PCV valve and spark plugs are all fairly new. They were replaced to solve this problem. But it stayed even after replacing these parts.
After getting the code I swapped the cylinder 2 fuel injector with the cylinder 4 injector, went out on the freeway and got the check engine light to come on again. Back to get it checked and it was still cylinder 2 misfire.
After reading this thread I also removed the fuel rail and sprayed carb cleaner through it. I didn't notice any screen in it. They may be specific to the Rams, but not sure. There was no change to the way the engine handled after doing this.
I have not replaced the coil but I would assume this would affect more than one cylinder. If that's not accurate let me know and I'll swap it out.
I am all out of ideas and after reading through the forums am hoping I get some of the great advice that has been passed on to others.
