My radio controls on my steering wheel work on and off, sometimes they do sometimes they dont. I have complete loss of volume, changing between am/fm/cd, both left and right controls. The actual radio controls work perfect and there is no other loss of electrical power. I have a 2001 SLT+. This just started happening last week. I performed a search and did not really come up with anything. Can anyone point me in the right direction, on fixing this?

Check the spring that is inside the steering wheel behind the airbag. If the spring is bad, some or all of your controls on your steering wheel may not work. My spring went out and all my radio controls did not work as well as all my cruise control.

 

I believe that is called the "clock spring". What is actually does, dunno!

I do not mean to Hijack this thread but could anyone tell me if the contols on the steering wheel are suppose to light up? 'Cause they do not in mine and I find it quite annoying. I am not the original owner and they have not worked since I got it. Thanks a lot.

 

Nope. No light up on the steering wheel controls.
