No 4WD on 2001 Durango
Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I apologize in advance if this question was answered in a previous post but I didn't find one after using the search function.
I am in somewhat of a pickle!
I went last night to a local dealer to trade-in my 2001 Durango 5.9 Maggie. The sales manager went out to look at my car, took it for a drive and came back in and told me that he couldn't get the 4WD to engage! I had just used it that morning. So I went out with him and low and behold, he was right. Whatever the problem is, it is definitely electrical. When I turn the switch, no engagement...no light on the dash...nothing.
So, my first (and cheapest) thought was that it is a fuse. I popped the cover on the fuse block but it appears that the switch for the 4WD unit is not on its own fuse. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.
What would your next thoughts be? Just a bad switch I hope?
Thank you in advance for your help!
John

OK...I apologize again. I did find one post where some people are having a similar problem. However, no solution was presented.

It sounds like your actuator has gone. Believe it or not, the actuator motor is actually a power window motor, just geared differently. It can be an expensive fix, as when the same problem happened on my Chevy Blazer 4x4, it cost around $500 cause they had to drop the transfer case and put the new motor in. If you are all mechanically inclined, it really isn't too hard, in that you really just have to disconnect both drive shafts and the input shaft from the tranny. I think that there is a cross member right underneath it that has to be removed as well.
