10-30 is just fine, as long as temps don't fall below 0F.

Just use Fully Synthetic 10-30 for best protection. Fully Synthetics will run like water even in temps of -56 degrees F. They also give outstanding protection in very hot conditions. It is best to stay with the 10-30 because it has all the stabilizing additives you need for your motor that the factory built it for. Also sludge problems are really only associated with the 4.7L. But it can happen in any vehicle.

Blends of Regular and Synthetic oils are crap so stay away from them. You either do one or the other.

I live up near Albany where we often see sub-zero temps and I've been using 10W30 in my 2000/5.9L D with no problems since it was new. But, there's apparently a lot of new thinking out there that recommends 5W30 year-round. Don't think you can go wrong with either grade.
Aside - 5W30 is the recommended grade for my HEMI powered RAM.
