Default Tires and torsion / shackle lift

Hi everyone,
I've just ordered some 32x11.50" BFG T/A's for the Durango. From reading through the forum, it appears that as my D is stock, I'm going to rub a bit on full turns. The D currently is in desperate need of an alignment and I was going to wait until the new rubber is put on (couple days). Does it make sense for me to go out and tweak the torsion bars now and have the alignment shop fix what ever error I introduce then put the tires on? Is there a better sequence?
Also, I'm unclear on the shackle part of this adjustment. Can someone explain a little more how it works?

Thank you

Ok with the t/s lift what you gotta do is crank the torsion bars 8 full revolutions (you get 1/4" for every rev) the rear has leaf springs and a solid axle so that is where the shackles come into play. They are 1" lowering shackles for chevy's but work great for lifting our D's 2". You just bolt them up where the springs bolt into the frame. Do a search on the forum and you will find the shackles you need I posted them up fairly recently.

Default RE: Tires and torsion / shackle lift

Hi, I watch this forum as I am totally a rookie with regards to Durango's and cars as a whole but I'll do my best to help. My D has the leaf springs runing up to a factory bracket so if you see a shackle chances are it's aftermarket. That being said, if the front rides close to level with the back, my guess isyour torsion rods have alreadybeen tweaked. What I did to get 32's under mine was just rotate 4 turns on the bolts that attach to the rear of the torsion rods and added a "add a leaf spring" to the rear which put things about level and about 1" above stock. (slight adjustment to headlights but not bad). I did this with a crude measurement off the outside edge of the top of the tire to the low side of the fender in the wheel well. With this adjustment, I still rub in reverse with the wheel's locked one way or the other and I don't do that often enough to bother me. If I were to wheel this D much, I'd add another 4 turns and do the shackle thing though. Hope this helpls.

Ok look at your D from the side, if you see the shackle jutting out below the bumper then you already have shackles, if not it's stock...
The 8 revolutions are the torsion bar bolts. 1rev=360*=1/4".
