TIRES
FELLOW FORUM ETEERS( THAT MAY NOT BE A WEBSTERS WORD BUT IT SOUNDS CATCHY.)
I have a question regarding tires, before I ask the question let me give you the background on the vehicle. 2003 DURANGO SLT 4X4 LEATHER. 3rd row 4.7 V8 (BABY MAGNUM)63K milesnow here goes.
Vehicle factory sticker shows 245/70/16 tires.Currently running on 265/70/16 including spare. I am sure the tires were replaced at one point, currently wearing GoodYear Wrangler R/T Shoes. The question I have is should I go back to the 245's or keep 265's in contradiction to manufacturers label? Tire center Supervisor says MPG will increase, and wear better with a lot better ride. There is also the cost, the 245'S set is about $200 cheaper but of course I want quality ride, fuel mileage, and affordability. The parameters I am looking for are all season, safety, good quiet road ride, affordability and ease of maintenance..
My contact at COSTCO, a trusted contact who has definitely earned my business. I have been on Costco Shoes (tires) since 2003 withmy 98 JEEP CHEROKEE and Costco has done 4K rotate/Balance and weekly Pressure Checks (LIKE CLOCKWORK) and tires had a 45K service life, but had well over 55K and still going strongat trade in due in part I am sure to proper maintenance.
O.K here is my COSTCO Plug, if you are in the market for tires, I strongly recommend COSTCO for your needs, they include everything in the price, fill with Nitrogen, lifetime rotation.balance (Tread life, not mileage, if there is legal and reaonable tread, they will rotate/balance) and they are very helpful with special orders, and customer service. If you are in a Costco area, try a set out. You can even shop in the market while the vehicle is being worked on. I have had very good luck with their tires, and although I havent had to test the extremes of the warranty (Punctures, Sidewall damage, etc...) I would suspect that you should have pretty luck with them on that. I am serious, on not testing the limits, part of it may be luck, but in almost four years, I have not had so much as a flat, glass puncture, slow leak, etc.. of course the Bridgestone Duelers held up their end of the agreement too.
If anyone can provide input I would appreciate it. Without outside inout I am more inclined to go with the 245 series based on D-C, manufacturers, COSTCO recommmendations and cost. It wont be the duelers again since Costco stopped selling them but next up are BF Goodrich Trail T/A's
As a sidebar although I am new to this forum I have seen a lot of activity and traffice, and I am very impressed, if they had this kind of forum when I got my first car, It might still be my first car. Although I hope to never come across some of the extreme situations I read about it is nice to get word of mouth here and we can all stick together and help one another out. I promise once this next round of rain comes through I will try for some PICS.

Sounds a little weird but, 01/03 came stock with 265/70/16's The stickers do say 245/70/16 but it was not right, My 01 dakota and my 03 durango came stock with the 265;s also
Keep the 265's you will loke them way better

Thats a little better than I thought, thanks again for the info on the tires. I think I might be able to squeak out 17-18 on the highway but I havent had a chance to get a baseline test yet.
I have found the Michelin P265/70/R16s LTX to get around 100,000 miles.....nothing I have used before comes close an any vehicle. Ride is a bit hard but wear, and reliability is unmatched on my 2001 Durango....
Floyd, Thanks for the input. I am trying to get a good balance of power, smooth ride, economy, long life, and value. One thing is for certain and I will not budge on is where I get them. Hopefully you read my plug for COSTCO but I have had excellent luck with them and have gotten about 15K miles longer part of good maintenance, but also I am sure filling them with Nitrogen from COSTCO helped. I will ask them about the Michelins, if not then they had a nice set of B.F.GOODRICH Trail T/A's. I prefer Bridgestone, but they are no longer a vendor for them. I od not do off roading, I am looking for a smooth highway/city ride and good stability and economy.
