Default Iridium Plugs

Just bought a 2003 SXT, 49,000 mi 4X4, 4.7
Went to Mobile 1 oil and installed K&N filter now looking at plugs.
Milage is around 16-17 hoping new set might help. In the recent post about plugs, Champion Iridium plugs were mentioned. Is this the way I want to go? Not to concerned about cost, I figure if it helps it's worth the extra $$$ in the long run, (just like the oil, run it in everything I have).
We bought a 2000 Dakota 4X4 4.7Quad Cab 3 yrs ago and thats my wifes ride, just turned 60,000, we really like it. Thats the main reason I wanted a Durango when I started looking, nice looking and nice ride, sure wish the gas milage was better. If the Champions help in mine I'll do the Dakota also.
So I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks
Tim

The Iridium plugs are good but I would just stay with the regular Champions or the Champion Truck plugs for a hotter burn. I don't think they are worth the cost of going with Iridium. I run the Truck Plugs with a MDS ignition system and love them. 16-17 mpg is very good with the 4.7L and you are not going to get much better. Kensia runs Iridium and say's that they are ok but even he said that he doesn't think they are worth the money but he did get about 1 more mpg with them.

I searched around for prices and see what you mean about the cost. I think I'll take your advise and go with the truck plugs.
Thanks for the come-back

Initially after I installed these Champion Truck Iridium plugs, it did not seem to make too much difference in power, but gas mileage improved a little. One thing for sure, it starts up much easier especially during the cold start in the winter season.

But I noticed after about 6 months or 6k of use, the truck still runs very smooth with these plugs. The engine idles much smoother vs the copper truck plugs I had previously. Napa guy says these plugs are good for up to 100k miles.

I finally got my D to take a long field trip. 700 miles R/T. First field trip with these iridium plugs. I got an average of 2 mpg better mileage vs the copper ones that I had previously. This is the same 700 mile field trip that I took in the past when I had the copper plugs. I ran around 14 mpg one way, and 15 on the return trip on copper and then ran 15.5 one way, and nearly 17 on the return trip. These mpg were based on 70 mph and little or no head wind.
