My 00 Durango has developed a stiff steering almost like the 4hi lock is engaged. I have shifted the transfer case into low, hi and back to normal driving condition several times and it still feels like it is binding up somehow. It is not grinding or making noise that I have heard but my wife said that it clunked on her when turning the other day. It feels almost like it has no power steering or low power steering pressure. I am going to dig into this thing tomorrow and see what I find. Any insight would be a great help. I am not sure where I want to start looking, powersteering,power rack or transfer case/4 wheel engagement. Also, it is in AWD all of the time and that leads me to think that it may be a locking problem. how does the system lock? Vaccum or purely by the shift of the transfercase. drives fine, straight and not really noisy like when the lockers are engaged. I am at a loss and need some tech help.
