Default Steering Issue

Hello All,

I am hoping someone can help. Driving the D this morning, about a 4 hour trip. Everything was
fine. Parked for about 45 minutes, started up and the steering became very difficult, as if there was
no power steering. At slow speeds, it is very difficult to drive. By the way the outside Temperature
was 17 degrees. I checked the belt, and it looks fine, the Power Steering fluid is a little low, but not to
low. I have a 2000 R/T 5.9 with Full Time 4x4

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

MC

How is the tension in the belt? It may just be loose and slipping on the pulley. thre shouldnt be too mucf play in the belt.
That happened to me once, the belt loosened off while driving with cruise control on. But it was a VW, so I had a whole bunch of other problems too

it could be your power steering pump.

Hi guy's thanks for responding.

I had it checked and the pump was shot.

Strange that it went that fast with no warning signs

it wa probly the 4 hour drive that killed it.

It is very strange that the pump would give no signs of wear. But it can happen.
